Weekly communication 7th October 2016
Good Afternoon all
We recognised that last week many of you could not see the links in your email. Please know that this has been rectified. You should be able to see the links this week! Please know that we post all of our latest news and newsletters on our school website. Keep checking our site for updates: www.jerryclayacademy.wakefield.sch.uk in ‘Latest news’.
We celebrate the great work our children have produced every week. As part of this we also give a Special Mention to children who have tried that little bit harder and demonstrated fantastic learner traits. Follow the link to see the winners of Special Mentions www.jerryclayacademy.wakefield.sch.uk/weekly-special-mentions
This week we hosted a Phonics workshop to explain our Read Write Inc. programme and how you can support at home. If you were unable to make it, please follow the link to see the presentation and all other JCA Phonics information. www.jerryclayacademy.wakefield.sch.uk/phonics
Macmillan Coffee Morning
What a fantastic coffee morning! I am always amazed at the amount of support we receive at such events, not to mention the donations of very tasty cakes. These were enjoyed by our pupils, parents and friends of JCA. We raised over £350 for Macmillan Cancer. Thank you! Please see the link for some pictures of our morning. http://www.jerryclayacademy.wakefield.sch.uk/latest-news/
Next week JCA will be filmed! As stated in previous newsletters, Miss Ashton was selected as a model teacher (1 of 5 in the country!). Some of her Phonics lessons will he recorded once a term to be used as a national/international training resource for other teachers in the best practice of Phonics teaching. All children that will be recorded as part of this have received an agreement form to give permission to be part of this. We will share our Phonics films in the future. Watch this space!
Next week we are so excited to be having a Maths Week. Maths is a priority on our development plan this year and as such we want to raise the profile of this subject across the whole school. Classes will be following a purposeful theme and exploiting Maths opportunities (as well as other subject areas). The children will be challenged to take part in a Maths Quiz Show every day in assembly, with the winning colour teams playing against each other in Friday’s assembly. Please follow us on twitter to see the magnificent Maths work going on next week.
We are all really looking forward to Apple Day on Sunday at 2pm. All of the children have produced poetry and Art work for this community event. Our choir will be singing at 2pm. Sue Nichol- one of our Community Governors organises the event every year and it really does celebrate our orchards but also our vibrant community. Generations coming together for an entertaining afternoon is something not to be missed!
